Aboriginal culture and bushfoods

An introduction into local culture. The Wadandi peoples habitat is described as stretching from the Bunbury region down to and including the Cape Naturalist to Cape Leeuwin.Much of their existance was reliant on the many wetlands (most of these have now been drained for urban and farming development) and coastal areas, though numerous families lived further inland to include the area around Nannup. The South Western aboriginal groups from Perth to Albany have their language described being Nyunga, though this is a very general term.

We recommend that if you are going to join an Aboriginal Cultural Tour, you check to see that your guide is actually aboriginal. Some tours are run by non-aboriginal people and as such are not authentic.

You can begin your introduction with a visit to the cultural centre at Wyadup.

At the Wardan Centre you can meet local aboriginal people who will generously share with you their culture and including bush tucker.
