Canoeing

Canoeing in the Margaret River area is generally very easy going with fairly flat waters except during the winter months.

Both the Margaret River and Blackwood River have sections which in winter are extremely hazardous due to large volumes of water flow.

Locations:

  • The Margaret River Mouth, flat water, camping at Prevelly Park Caravan park;
  • Blackwood River at Sues Rd, going inland or seaward, some minor rapids except in winter (camping);
  • Blackwood River at Great North Rd, some minor rapids except in winter (camping);
  • Blackwood River at Warner Glen Bridge, Chapman Pool, flat water (camping);
  • Molloy Island Boat Landing, for a circuit of the Island and up the Scott River (caravan Park with canoes available);
  • Blackwood estuary at Augusta where you can paddle accross to East Augusta(camping and canoes available);
  • Hamlin Bay, accross to Hamlin Island.

    People who play together share extraordinary relationships”
    Trevor McGowan 2000

    Additional locations:
  • Lake Jasper, you need a 4WD to tow canoes in to the camp site;
  • Donnelly River, a 12km canoe one way, with all of the hut varandahs available for public camping just 1km before the river mouth. Camping is also available at the entry point, "Boat Landing";
  • Warren River.
